Introduction:
In Solaris 7 System Administration II students will learn how to: administer
Sun workstations running Solaris 7 in a networked environment, install and
maintain Sun systems, configure and troubleshoot the NFS (network file
system) environment, configure the NIS (network information service)
environment, and add diskless clients.
Who Should Attend:
Technical and application support staff taking responsibility for administering a networked
server running Solaris operating systems.
Objectives:
Upon completion of this course, you will be able to:
- Install and configure a Solaris server
- Enable 64 bit capability on Ultra SPARC servers
- Understand event logging with syslog
- Administer the CDE (Common Desktop Environment)
- Create virtual disk based systems
- Support the installation of devices using Service Access Facility
- Configure NFS to support the client-server environment
- Use the automounter
- Configure and administer Network access for ftp and telnet
- Understand Naming Services options including NIS, NIS+, and DNS
- Configure and administer the NIS environment
- Add network clients and AutoClient support to a server
- List the different license configurations and describe how to install a license
- Use JumpStart to automate Solaris installation
Required Skills/Knowledge:
To succeed fully in this course, you should be able to:
- Install the Solaris operating system on a standalone system including update patches
- Understand and perform booting and shutdown procedures and options
- Log into a UNIX system and change passwords, add users, and set up file permissions
- Make directories, setup partitions, and manage files
- Use the Solaris device naming conventions to configure and name devices
